EU plans to triple maternity pay – landing taxpayer with huge bill

Source: Daily Mail

Women will be entitled to full pay for the first 18 weeks of maternity leave under radical plans being drafted in Brussels.

This more than triples the amount currently received by new mothers in Britain but would saddle businesses and the taxpayer with a massive bill.

Ministers face an uphill battle to block the controversial proposals, which will be unveiled next month and enjoy the support of most other EU countries.

Brussels sets minimum levels of maternity leave and pay, while countries may apply their own rules beyond these provisions.

European Commissioner Vladimir Spidla is drawing up a directive to increase leave from 14 to 18 weeks and upgrade income for that time from sick pay levels to full salary.

Britain would be unaffected by the extra time off as current UK rules give women the right to a year’s leave.

However, the change on pay would be hugely significant. Continue reading

MPs too scared to talk about forced marriage ‘in case they lose Muslim votes’

Who is your daddy. Pathetic behaviour of politicians, scrambling for votes. All that interests these traitors is being re-elected.

Source: Telegraph

Ann Cryer said politicians in areas with high Muslim populations, many of which are Labour heartlands, should be at the forefront of the campaign to stop young couples being made to wed against their will by their families.

But she claimed that some politicians are afraid to speak out on the issue in case they alienate Muslim voters. The forced marriage unit at the Foreign Office deals with an estimated 300 cases every year, most of them involving teenage girls from Pakistani or Bangladeshi families.

Mrs Cryer, who is stepping down as MP for Keighley in West Yorkshire at the next general election, added that local Muslim leaders are not doing enough to encourage integration and accused them of trying to keep immigrants who move to Britain “in the backwoods”.

It comes just days after Gordon Brown praised her “brave” campaign against forced marriage, and said her understanding of her constituency was “second to none”.

Mrs Cryer, 68, said: “There still is a nervousness to talk about this, especially those MPs in constituencies affected by these issues.

“They should be fighting on the front line, but they are the ones keeping quiet on the issue because they don’t want to lose votes.

Just when you thought the Blairite monster was dead…

Source: Daily Mail

(Extract)

It is like the end of The War Of The Worlds, when the terrifying, invincible Martian monsters suddenly perish.

The New Labour Monster lies powerless and broken on the ground.

Tiny, unconvincing creatures, like the Euro-fanatic David Miliband, scurry squeaking about the twisted wreckage but they cannot get it to work.

From beyond the political grave, the sugary voice of Anthony Blair is to be heard claiming that if only he were still in charge, this would never have happened – an idea that could be accepted only by someone suffering from total memory loss about this fraudulent warmonger.

And now, when almost anyone in a suit, and with normal facial features, could lead the Opposition to a smashing triumph, what have we got?

We have the Useless Tory Party, dedicated to the proposition that its only hope of getting into office is to copy the last 11 years of idiocy.

All the logic of the Blair years shows us that what is called ‘the Centre Left’ is bankrupt.

The European Union has been an expensive disaster for this country, ruining swathes of our economy, destroying our independence – and then having the nerve to charge us for it. Continue reading

Unmanned drone planes set to spy on Britons

You just keep telling yourself it’s for your safety and that you’re still free.

Source: Daily Mail

Unmanned spy planes could soon be used to carry out covert surveillance on UK citizens, under controversial new Government plans.

The MoD is working with defence firm BAE Systems to make so-called UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles) safe enough to be used to help police operations in the UK.

The sophisticated unmanned aircraft are able to get clear images of the ground even when flying at up to 50, 000 feet.

However, even though they are widely used by British troops in warzones such as Iraq and Afghanistan, until now they have not been cleared for use in civilian airspace.

The plan to use UAVs in Britain has worried civil liberties groups who say that they could be used to spy on innocent civilians.

Gareth Crossman, director of policy at the civil rights watchdog Liberty, told The Independent: ‘The question is not so much about the technology but what one does with it.

‘We have quite definite laws about where CCTV can be used but of course with UAVs you have much greater ability to gather material in private spaces and this would lead to concern.’

He added: ‘If they are used to simply hover to gain random information then that would obviously be a matter of worry and a civil liberty issue.’

If approved, UAVs could be for disaster relief, crowd control and anti-terror surveillance maritime searches as well as supporting Coastguard, police, fire and intelligence services, the committee heard.

The MPs’ report says the MoD is ‘closely involved with the development of procedures and regulations which allow UAVs to operate in national and Nato airspace. Continue reading

Libertas founder plans Europe-wide Lisbon Treaty referendums

We are already in a position wherein the EU creates over 80% of our laws now. The Lisbon Treaty would merely give the remaining powers of sovereign nations to the globalists in Brussels, add self amending clauses and consolidate all power in the hands of the unelected suits. Saying no to the Treaty is only the first step. We must leave the EU. We must purge our State of these money grabbing, lying cheating little Marxist vermin and make the British realise that sovereign power is with the People, not the Government. Legally they have no right to transfer the People’s power to Brussels.

Source: Telegraph

The man who delivered an historic “No” vote in Ireland against the EU’s Lisbon Treaty has revealed far-reaching plans to give voters throughout Europe a peoples’ referendum on the handover of power to Brussels.

Declan Ganley is planning to field more than 400 candidates in next June’s European Parliament elections, in the 26 countries – including Britain – where voters have had no direct say on the treaty.

The energy and rhetoric of Mr Ganley, a multimillionaire businessman, was widely credited with persuading the Irish to reject the treaty, even though every leading Irish political party apart from Sinn Fein was urging voters to say “Yes”.

Now he wants to give British voters a chance to deliver a bloody nose to both the Brussels establishment and to Gordon Brown, whose party first promised and then refused a referendum in Britain.

In an interview with The Sunday Telegraph, Mr Ganley disclosed that he was starting to raise £75 million from online donations to run candidates in all 12 of Britain’s European Parliament constituencies, and in seats throughout the EU.

He will turn his pressure group, Libertas, into a party with just one policy: to fight the Lisbon Treaty, which many see as the rejected European Constitution by the back door.

“We will tell people that Libertas is the box you put your X in if you want to vote ‘No’ to the Lisbon Treaty. It’s clear, it’s simple,” he said. Continue reading

Selling land by the acre to be banned under new EU ruling

Another regulation from the unelected EU rolls over our Sovereignty…

Source: Daily Mail

People in Britain will lose the right to sell land in acres under a new Brussels ruling nodded through by the Government.

In a low-key meeting, a junior minister agreed last week to abolish the ancient imperial measurement and replace it with the metric equivalent ‘hectare’ from 2010.

The UK previously had an opt-out, technically known as a ‘derogation’, from the EU’s use of some metric measurements, which allowed the continued use of acres for the pruposes of land registration.

But from January 1, 2010, the unit, which dates back to the 13th century, will be banned.

The decision was buried deep within the small print of EU directive 80/181/EEC on agriculture and fisheries and revealed by the Tories.

‘This is this kind of pointless interference into the nooks and crannies of our national life that frustrates people about the EU,’ said shadow Europe minister Mark Francois.

‘Whether we use hectares or acres should be a matter for Britain to decide, not the EU.

‘Once again this weak Labour Government has meekly given up yet another of Britain’s rights to Brussels.

‘They need to think again and insist that we must keep our right to use our ancient traditional measure of land if we wish.’

Successive British governments have been under pressure from Brussels to announce a date for phasing out imperial measures altogether, with the latest deadline set for 2009.

Last year, however, the European Commission and Parliament announced that it would no longer be seeking their extinction.

It followed campaigns by Britons dubbed ‘Metric Martyrs’ who have fought for years to stop the march of new measurements from Europe. Continue reading
